Nutri-West Presents: Total Fiber

Nutri-West Presents: Total Fiber

July 26, 2010

Fiber is a key element in intestinal health and TOTAL HEALTH. Dietary fibers are either soluble or insoluble, with most plant sources containing a mixture of both types. Fiber is available in many foods, especially fruits and vegetables, with some plant material containing very high levels of fiber, such as flaxseed, glucomannan, beta glucans, cocomut fiber, gum arabic, rice bran and apple pectin, among others. Fiber increases the “good bacteria” in the intestinal tract and produces butyric acid, a short chain fatty acid which is manufactured by the intestines through bacterial fermentation of fiber and is necessary for the healthy maintenance of the intestinal wall. Butyric acid is the main energy source for the colon epithelial cells and helps repair and regenerate damaged cells. Fiber softens stools and decreases transit time, guarding against constipation while at the same time being beneficial for diarrhea. Fiber also exercises the colon wall as well, preventing inflammatory pouches and and a “lazy” colon.

The colon is a major elimination pathway for toxins, and supporting the colon with fiber helps both toxin binding and toxin removal, in the elimination process. Fiber is useful in detox protocols to flush toxic waste from the body. Ridding the body of excess toxic waste helps to maximize efficiency of all biochemical processes, maintaining general health and well-being. Most health organizations recommend increasing the fiber intake in the diet for optimal health.

Fiber slows gastric emptying, and it is helpful for blood sugar regulation and healthy cholesterol/triglyceride levels. Fiber can beneficially influence satiety, which is important in the support of weight balance. Fiber binds excess estrogen for removal, and many female complaints are due to estrogen dominance. Whether pre- or post-menopausal, fiber is beneficial for female hormonal balance. All colon conditions can usually be addressed with fiber support as a beneficial addition, however, it is important to note that even though fiber is important for colon health, if the colon is actively inflamed, such as with Inflammatory Bowel Syndrome, it is best to rest the gut with protein powders during those active bouts.

Inulin is a form of soluble fiber and is categorized as a prebiotic, which means that it promotes the growth of good bacteria in the gut (probiotics). There is evidence that inulin may increase calcium and magnesium absorption (1,2).

Rice Bran contains a high level of dietary fibers such as beta-glucan, pectin and gum. Constituents of these fibers include tocotrienols (a natural fraction of vitamin E), gamma-oryzanol and beta-sitosterol; all these ingredients have been noted to have a positive correlation to the lipid profile (cholesterol) (3).

Coconut Fiber is full of lignans and cellulose, with many health properties; indeed, some varieties of coconut have even been demonstrated to have “antinociceptive (analgesic) and anti-inflammatory activities which confirm the popular use of this plant” (4).

Flax Seed is used to provide bulk and counteract constipation because of its dietary fiber content (5). A 2009 study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition reported that flax seeds may lower cholesterol levels, especially in women (6). Other studies suggest that flax seeds may be beneficial in other conditions as well, including stabilization of blood-sugar levels (7).

Apple Pectin is a soluble fiber that acts as a digestive aid and intestinal regulator. It slows gastric emptying, which is good for blood sugar and healthy cholesterol levels, and helps remove unwanted toxins from the colon. A research article published in Carcinogenesis, Apr 2010, describes a fraction of apple pectin as “highly effective against intestinal toxicities”, and “active against inflammation”, and reported that it “may be useful for treatment of colitis” (8). Yet another 2010 study, in Anaerobe, pointed out that apple pectin is one of the effective apple components improving the large intestine environment (9). Apple pectin is believed to increase the absorption capacity of the small intestine, and in fact has been shown to increase levels of quercetin, a powerful plant bioflavonoid (10).

Acacia Gum is a natural gum taken from two species of the acacia tree. It is a fiber that has pro-absorptive and antimicrobial properties (11).

Freeze Dried Apple: Both apple fiber and gum arabic lowered total and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) in men with moderately high cholesterol levels (12).

Chia Seed is rich in omega-3 fatty acids and amino acids, and contains significant levels of antioxidants and dietary fiber (mostly soluble). The antioxidants include caffeic acids, myricetin, quercetin, and kaempferol flavonols. A systematic review showed that “the available human and non-human studies show possible effectiveness for allergies, angina, athletic performance enhancement, coronary heart disease (CHD), heart attack, hormonal/endocrine disorders, hyperlipidemia, hypertension, stroke, and vasodilatation” (13). Some evidence also suggests possible anticoagulant and antiviral effects of chia (14).

Glucomannan is a water-soluble dietary fiber derived from konjac root and has the highest molecular weight and strongest viscosity among any dietary fiber known to science. Glucomannan can absorb up to 200 times its weight in water, which is one of the ways it increases bulk and slows insulin response. It promoted bowel movement and improved colonic ecology in constipated adults in a placebo-controlled, diet-controlled trial (15).

Natural Banana – bananas are high in fiber, potassium and phosphorus, and contain other vitamins and minerals as well. Banana is also a good source of healthful flavonoids and pre-biotics (16).
Spirulina is green, full of fiber, vitamins and minerals, has high anti-oxidant capacity and has been extensively researched. 2010 studies show that spirulina is helpful for inflammation, cholesterol, and toxic assault, amongst other health benefits (17). Spirulina has been proven to be, “effective to treat certain allergies, anemia, hepatotoxicity, viral and cardiovascular diseases, hyperglycemia, hyperlipidemia, immunodeficiency, and inflammatory processes, among others” (18). These activities are attributed to some of the components in spirulina, including an isolated complex called Ca-Spirulan.

Beta Glucans are not only high in fiber and well-known for being soluble fiber supplements, they lower bad cholesterol and raise good cholesterol (19). Beta glucans increase the phagocytosis of antigens (20) which is one of the ways in which it modulates the immune system. In fact, beta glucans have “been shown to enhance the envelopment and digestion (phagocytosis) of pathogenic microorganisms that cause infectious disease” (21), and positively affect the immune cascade, especially T cells, B cells and dendritic cells (22).

Agave Nectar (real nectar) a raw natural sweetener.

Dosage: One tablet three times per day, unless otherwise recommended (such as a bowel cleanse). It is important to drink plenty of filtered water with fiber supplements.

Contraindications: Acute stages of inflammatory bowel disease. High fiber may slow absorption of some drugs; take the supplement away from the drug by several hours.

Total Fiber is for you, your family and your patients. It is easy to take and removes all of the old reasons you did not get enough fiber.

Health and Happiness from the Wellness Team of Nutri-West/Brimhall!

Products to consider: Core Level Health Reserve, Total Veggie, Total Children’s Chewable

-In reference to Pain: Patients with acute or long term pain or discomfort, you may need to also address nutrition.
Products to consider: Total Joint Support, Total Inflam, Enzyme Pforesis Ice

2. Using N-Compass Health or the eWellnessSystem (www.eWellnessSystem.com), make nutritional information available in your reception area and other treatment areas that may be applicable. This information should be relating to specific Health Concerns to better connect with and relate to the patient! Examples: Allergies, Cold/Flu, Fatigue, Depression, Stress, Fibromyalgia, Diabetes, etc.

3. Post a ‘Condition of the Month’ (made available by Nutri-West) in your reception area! Use this to promote and educate patients on specific conditions and nutrition! This is also a great way for doctors and staff to become more familiar with nutrition! Your condition of the month can also be part of a doctor/staff training where this information is reviewed and discussed! The more doctors and staff understand nutrition and it’s benefits, the more they will feel comfortable to discuss this with patients!! You can get this information from www.eWellnessSystem.com.

4. Make sure you have the Nutri-West Silver Bullets Manual in your practice. This is one way to further educate patients on what you’re recommending to them and why! It is a great resource! Read the Nutri-Notes that come with every Nutri-West order you place! This is great for doctor, staff and patient education! If you aren’t getting the Nutri-Notes or don’t have the Silver Bullets Manual, be sure to ask your distributor right away!

II. Increasing Efficiency in the Billing Department
Electronic Claims Submission --> DONE RIGHT!

The Brimhall Team’s job is to teach YOU how to treat the patients for increased results. Brandy’s job is to increase your profits. This second portion of this week's Puzzle Piece is on why and how to do Electronic Claims Submission.

There are so many tasks to be organized and addressed in a billing department, such as claims submission, insurance verifications, claims appeals, reviewing of Accounts Receivable and claims re-submissions, patient account statements and collections, etc. Some of these duties can be extremely time consuming which is why it is so important to insure that every step and every system in the billing department is as efficient and effective as possible. By evaluating this, you are sure to prevent or reduce lost time in carry out of systems, streamline the systems within the department and gain confidence that these procedures are being executed smoothly and correctly. One element to evaluate in your billing department is electronic claims submissions. Getting paid by
Insurance carriers and getting paid faster is a crucial component to efficiency and productivity in a billing department.

Are you getting rejected claims? Are you finding that many of your claims still aren't being received by insurance payers? Do you have a good relationship with your insurance clearinghouse where your questions are answered and assistance is quickly provided, if needed?

If any of the above questions are obstacles that you face, you would be well served to reconsider your current clearinghouse. Or, maybe you are ready to transition from paper to electronic claims submission and are unclear about the steps you need to take. Either way, you may find comfort and confidence with APEX EDI. The following will outline only a few features that are offered by Apex EDI that will certainly help to insure efficiency in the claims submission process! Benefits and features of Apex EDI include:

1. No annual maintenance fees
2. Money back guarantee
3. Online Corrections resulting in:
     a. No double submission on a single claim
     b. No double charges for a single claim (because of double submission)
4. Flat Rate with Unlimited Claims submissions
5. Compatible with ALL Practice Management Software (even those that offer clearing house services)
6. Verification of claims delivery
7. FREE client support
8. Connects to all insurance companies, nation and state wide.
a. Claims are no longer being dropped to paper and printed for submission
b. Reduces paper claims expense

Apex EDI will do a risk free, FREE claims service evaluation upon your request! Please call them at 800-840-9152. Additionally, by mentioning referral code 104, you will receive 2 months of FREE service, if you sign up with them! You can also preview Apex EDI online at www.apexedi.com.

This is a very helpful step in streamlining your billing department. Please subscribe to the Total Practice Resources Spotlight newsletter, as we will continue to cover other important steps that can be taken to make your office as efficient and profitable as possible!

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median salary for Chiropractors in the United States is approximately $68,000 annually. Statistics show that the averages from state to state, do indeed vary, but as we consider the statistics above, we may find ourselves all having one common thought... "What can we do to be more profitable?"
We would all love for there to be just a few short steps to take to help us create the practice of our dreams immediately. Although the answer isn't that simple, there are things that you can do with and for your practice to make a big difference right away. As we know, lost time also results in lost profitability so we want to be sure to evaluate your practice systems inside and out, carefully reviewing everything that happens from the moment the patient calls to schedule their appointment.

Read the few questions below and answer them for your practice:
-Are you confident in the level of staff training?
-Are you comfortable with the services you offer in your practice?
-Are you confident in your patient education procedures? (Consider your Report of Findings, tangible materials such as brochures, how doctor(s) and staff explain services and answer patient questions, etc)
-Are you able to monitor your statistics to evaluate growth, stability, and decline?
-Do you have a clear vision of the type of practice you would like to have and have you shared this with your team? Does your team share your Dream? If not why are they still there?
-Do you feel like the systems in your practice are the most up to date, efficient, effective and thorough?
-Do you feel confident that you are connecting with and getting your message out to potential patients?
-Are you satisfied with your per visit average and monthly collections?
-Are you knowledgeable in nutrition and Functional evaluation of your patients?
-Is you nutrition sales where it should be to help your patients to the maximum possible?

If you answered "No" to any of the questions above, don't feel discouraged, but instead, feel empowered that you now have a starting point to begin to prioritize and work with, for your practice. Make note of the specific areas of breakdown, potential obstacles or areas of your practice where you would like to see improvement. This is a starting point for you to begin plan your action steps for improvement. GIVE US A CALL TODAY AND LET US HELP YOU!

Please be sure to stay tuned to future TPR Spotlight Editions for additional steps for finding your uncollected profits. We, at Total Practice Resources, would love to speak with you as well about your practice growth and development. We do offer a free consultation to discuss your specific practice needs and how we may help you meet those. Please be sure to call (303) 242-8901 or email Brandy at brandy_tpr@yahoo.com.

Additionally, you will find our new, interactive website to be a tremendous resource to you with many of your practice growth and development needs. From systems and structure to coding, compliance, collections and statistics as well as MUCH more! View this new site at www.ChiroNetwork.info!

What's New at the Nutri-West Brimhall Seminars

The Seminar DVD's are really great because you can watch them several to many times. Some say they have watched them as many as 14 times and are still learning because there is so much material. They are a great overview of the basic and advanced work. The seminars use the Beginning and Advanced information as a basis and basics and then goes many miles beyond. You can not substitute the energy and hands on of the Seminar.

We have learned many new techniques, innovations and implementations that are taught at the seminars. One new technique we have discovered and are now teaching is how to determine which heavy metal/s (testing with a Total Metal Homeopathic) is locking up the brain and nervous system and in some cases specific organs. This gives us immediate access to other hidden findings of the areas of the brain that will respond the best to therapy, such as laser, Eyelights, foot baths and Nutri-West nutrition like Total Brain, Total 5 H-HTP and/or Total Chelate. It shows different organ stress and specific needed nutrition to support body function and detoxification. Many toxins are hidden or bound up in organs or fatty tissue. This has been the answer to many patients that lock up, chronically switched and for those with recurring neurological disorganization!

We will demonstrate new laser techniques and for those that are interested, will demonstrate the new Quantum Laser, with its many new innovations in treatment and application. Many of our docs get it because they can do everything with this $3500-$5900 (depending if you want to add a 100mw violet wand) laser, which they otherwise would have to spend $17,000 to almost $30,000 to be able to do, purchasing other brands. Some of the infra red lasers are many thousands more for just that one wave length. Many are getting the Quantum laser because is has red, infra red and violet wavelengths. Some are getting is as a second or third unit and are recommending them to their patients, or other doctor friends, where the doctor makes a $600 to $1000 commission depending on what is ordered. Call Carey at 866-338-4883 for details or go on www.brimhall.com.

We will be introducing our new Functional Diagnostic tests and upcoming seminars that are scheduled to teach them. We have developed a coop relationship that allows our doctors to order and utilize diagnostic tests such as blood and get $7-800 worth of testing for $100-200. We will be unveiling a new system of computerized evaluation and print outs that allows an office to interpret unlimited numbers of blood tests for only $69 per month. Or you will learn how to do it yourself. There is way too much to relate in an e-mail. We will teach unlimited opportunities and profitability in being able to help the patients to a much greater level and expand the doctor’s abilities with this Functional Diagnostic testing and reporting.

Brandy Beeson and Dr. Brian Anderson or Dr. Bruce Carrick will be teaching implementation of all that you learned from the Basic and Advanced tapes, plus the new material presented. Brandy's all time record is to increase a doctor's collections by $10,000 per week or a total monthly increase of $40,000. Dr. Anderson and Dr. Carrick teach how to better implement nutrition into your practice to increase patient results, efficiency and profitability. They also teach and assist in the hands on portion of the seminar.

Carey Shaw will be in Colorado in person and her presentation on power point for other seminars to show you the latest techniques on how to put yourself on the map with your website and how to keep yourself there with internet marketing and ranking. She will teach how to do podcasts, webcasts, how to get on Youtube etc. She will demonstrate companies that have advanced services in this area if you are interested.

There will be hands on workshops that DVD's just can't teach. There are sessions where you can be treated; as well as make sure your techniques are accurate. There will be workshops in adjusting techniques, fascial and scar tissue release, cranial adjusting, allergy testing and treatment, nutrient muscle response testing, stress release and there will be advanced workshops where complicated cases will be treated.

We will have an entire team to meet and exceed the needs of the doctors and assistants to help them implement, to a grater degree, a Total Wellness system in their practice and office.

I look forward to seeing you there. Bring the list of the outcomes you want to achieve and let's check them off together.

We look forward to seeing you soon.

Creating Success

by Brimhall Wellness Tue, April 13 2010 17:27

Creating Success

Your attitude creates your altitude for success. Our attitude creates not only our level of success but our evaluation of what has happened and even if it is viewed as success or failure.

This has to do with our success in practice, family, money, relationships and everything else in life. Irving Berlin said life is 10 percent what you make it and 90 percent how you take it. My medical friends call me a pathogenic learner. I always want to know more. This could be called constructive discontent. However if we get so caught up in what we do not have or do not know, it paralyzes our progress. We must be happy at where we are as we climb the next rung of the ladder.

The goal we have with Nutri-West/Brimhall seminars is to continue to bring you the most up to date and progressive information, nutrition and techniques. We want to present them in the most dynamic way to promote you in all of Life’s aspects. We of course concentrate on your practice and your ability to help your patients and to increase your presence. To do this you and we must concentrate on YOU. I have seen one doctor achieve a certain level of success and be overjoyed and another achieve the same level and want to give up practice altogether. Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “To different minds, the same world is a hell, and a heaven.”

Please keep in mind that our attitude is so important because oftentimes the attitude we demonstrate is exactly what we will get back. Earl Nightingale said, “Our attitude toward life determines life’s attitude toward us.”

It is important that we give others what they need and want and not what we want them to have. A thought process is not to treat others as we want to be treated but to treat others as they want to be treated. W. Clement Stone said,” There is little difference in people, but that little difference makes a big difference.”

We want to know what you want from us and how we can better serve you. One suggestion we have received is to shorten the Puzzle Pieces and maybe just do a thought or a quick nutrition pearl one week and an article the next where you can be informed and inspired in 30 seconds. So your wish is our command and we will move in that direction. You will see this article is short and sweet.

We hope to see you real soon at a Nutri-West/Brimhall Seminar. We hope some of you can join us this April 14-17 at the Certification in Phoenix, Arizona. We start out each day to unlock the doors to prosperity in all aspect of your lives. This is the only seminar where we have a one to five ratio of instructors to students. It is the only seminar where we have enough time to cover all Six Interferences and all Six Steps To Wellness to the level of complete understanding and implementation. It is about transforming your mind, heart, techniques and understanding to create the practice and life you desire.

Dr. Brian Anderson will teach you how to better implement nutrition in your practice to help more patients and increase your revenue. Brandy of Total Practice Resources (TPR) will teach many aspects of increasing your bottom line without increasing your overhead. One doctor she was able to help increase $40,000 per month in collections. As part of the seminar, she will be able to meet with you and your staff one on one. Dr. Bruce Carrick will teach you the advanced techniques and protocols and how he did 1.3 Million in one year doing all 6 Steps and was able to see 60-80 patients per day.

CHIRONETWORK

MARCH 29, 2010

This weeks Puzzle Piece comes from Brandy of Total Practice Resources. This is just a glimpse of what she adds to the seminars. She, Dr. Brian Anderson and Dr. Bruce Carrick will be some of our main speakers and teachers at Certification next month. Dr. Eydi Bauer assisted us in San Jose this last weekend covering Gluten and its many facets of influence on dis-ease, along with Brandy and Dr. Anderson. Dr. Bauer will also be taking part in Certification this year.

As I attend seminars and visit clinics and work with practices across the country, I spend a tremendous amount of time reviewing procedures, systems and structure in offices and working to help the practices build and maintain seamless systems of their own. The one thing that I see and hear among the practices is that this vital element is falling short of Dr/practice needs and expectations. Thus, it is limiting the abilities, the income, patient care, staff contribution and more, to the practice success.

This brings me to my next topic, which is consulting. We all probably recognize the importance and value in having a consultant for your practice. Some of you may be working with Total Practice Resources, others may be with other consulting companies and others may not be ready to take that step.

Every office needs access to resources, for questions, insight, assistance, additional information, etc. In effort to assist offices with these specific things, whether you are working currently with consultants or not, I would like to introduce you to the newest service offered through Total Practice Resources. Statistics and Results Breed Profitability

Statistics Breed Profitability

I often hear that after attending a seminar, practices tend to always increase because of the attention to protocols, achieving greater understanding and knowledge of how to get better results faster and of course, the time spent with CAs is always very motivating. As a previous CA myself, I remember the exact same feeling after being at a seminar.

At a recent seminar, a doctor was talking to me about his practice and decided at that time to challenge himself in all areas of his practice. His first priority for improvement….Nutrition. His first step at the seminar was to set a nutrition goal; second step was to insure that he had supplies on hand and available as recommendations are made to patients. Upon returning to his practice, he was able to follow the remainder of the steps as shown below. His outcome…the very first week upon returning home from a Nutri-West/Brimhall seminar, he sold ALL of the nutrition that he had on hand and had obtained at the seminar and re-ordered immediately! Results of this dedication were not only immediate, but they have resulted in better patient education, better & faster patient results, more patient referrals, better patient compliance and practice growth! Just a couple of short months later, this doctor has re-evaluated his goals again and is reaching to even greater heights!

Having well educated patients is the KEY to your patient retention, patient compliance and generating more referrals. If you haven’t lately evaluated your office on patient education, now is great time to reflect on this so you can determine and make necessary forward progress.

The first place to begin with your evaluation is your statistics. Remembering that ‘what you focus on, grows’, you must measure your statistics and look at areas of growth, stability & decline. Make specific note of your findings, evaluating each area such as new patient visits, established patient visits, re-exams, reactivations, nutrition sales, etc. Once you have done this, determine the following:

    1. Are these statistic measurements meeting your expectations?
    2. If not, which of these areas would you like to change or improve?
    3. What are your short term (1-6 months) and long term (6-12 months) goals for these areas?
    4. Are you prepared? (training, products/materials to accomplish, patient education, etc)
    5. Prioritize the top 1 or 2 areas that you would like to first address or that are most important
        to address.

Once you have answered these questions, you can now outline with your team, your Outcome, Plan and Action Steps needed to improve these areas, fine tune your current systems and work to meet or exceed the goals you have set. Be sure that you include your staff in this process. Determine what each of you can do individually to contribute to the care and well being of your patients and to the success of your practice.

As you discuss and prepare with your team, be sure to evaluate your training systems, review common Question/Answer for patients, your use of tangible materials such as brochures, dvds, cds, etc to aid in educating your staff and your patients. Other resources to consider: Nutri-West Silver Bullets Manual, NW Protocol manual, and the NW newly updated online catalog accessible through www.nutriwest.com, eWellness System, Nutri-Notes, Nutrition A-Z,
Nutri-West/Brimhall Seminars.

Your statistics should be re-evaluated monthly and progress should be noted. As with any implementations, mid-course corrections may need to be addressed. Continue to do this regularly
to maintain focus on specific areas of your practice.

John W. Brimhall, DC and the Wellness Team

What Did We Do Right? What Can We Do Better?

by Brimhall Wellness Mon, March 15 2010 23:04

WHAT DID WE DO RIGHT? WHAT CAN WE DO BETTER?

MARCH 15, 2010

Albert Einstein said "we can never solve a problem if we stay in the same state we created the problem in".

Brandy and I receive letters, e-mails, or hear stories each week on how doctors or practices are seeing fewer patients and they are barely hanging on. Or that they are discouraged and they are not sure they want to be a Chiropractor, a Dentist, a D.O. or a M.D. any more.

UN-DAM-IT DOCTOR! Get Your Passion Back! Open your mind, heart and office doors to the patients that so desperately need your help. I have to be honest that I cannot totally relate to these issues on a personal basis. So I am working to put myself in the shoes of these individuals to know what that would really feel like. I was carried into a Chiropractors office for my first visit and exposure to Chiropractic with extreme pain from the waist up and no feeling from the waist down. Life came back into my legs and the pain left with my first Chiropractic Adjustment. I was studying to be a Dentist before this experience and the D.C. convinced me that I owed it to Chiropractic and Humanity to do for others what Chiropractic had done for me.

I have never looked back and I have never questioned God, Innate, The Source or whatever name we give this higher power had a hand in all that took place to create the passion that drives me to help others. YOU MUST GO BACK TO THE MOMENT IN TIME WHERE YOUR INTUITION PROMPTED YOU AND YOU KNEW WHAT YOU WERE GOING TO DO FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE.

When we get up every day, loving our service and that love is made evident by how we present ourselves and treat others, we automatically attract people looking for just that.

…THERE IS NO GREATER MARKETING ON THE PLANET.

When the WHY is big enough, the HOW’S take care of themselves. You must allow yourself to think astronomically because your innermost thoughts become your outermost tangible reality.

If this does not put tears in your eyes and warmth in your heart, you need to pray, read a book, take a seminar, look at a sunrise and sunset on the same day and literally count all of the blessings you have. Get a success notebook and write down everything that went good that day, the people you helped, the things that made you smile and watch a baby play. There are just as many good and wonderful things that happen EVERY day as challenges. Sometimes we just have to look and count them to know they are there.

I/We want to serve YOU better. The title of this P.P. has real meaning. We want to know at Brimhall Wellness and Nutri-West 1) WHAT DID WE DO THAT IS RIGHT? 2) WHAT CAN WE DO BETTER TO SERVE YOU?

Will you please take a few minutes to write an e-mail and send it to carey@brimhallwellness.com answering these questions for Brimhall Wellness and Nutri-West? We will make sure they get in the right hands to take immediate action. I am presently taking seminars to allow me to teach blood work and interpretation to add to the seminars. Dr. Brett, Dr. Campbell and Dr. Anderson are using this to great advantage in their practice. The reports give us the Nutri-West Nutriceuticals that give the maximum change.

Now do the same in your office. You make a sign that asks these two questions and hand out paper and pens to all of the patients that come into your office and get these questions answered for you right on the spot. Then e-mail those patients that have not been in for awhile and have them answer these questions. If you need help, Brandy of TPR can help you for about any situation and her new CHIRONETWORK.INFO can help you track your every move for growth and prosperity (303-242-8901 or brandy_tpr@yahoo.com).

I can not go to the post office, the gym, Home Depot or Staples and not see someone limping, a carpal tunnel brace, someone with a headache, etc. that needs your care. I can not keep my mouth shut. I talk to them and get them to someone who can help. That is you and I doing the work. There are six causes of subluxations and six steps to correct them.

Please doctors, staff and wives, let’s do what it takes to get back the passion, fill the offices and create the prosperity you deserve. Please, please get to a seminar real soon and let’s continue this thought process in person and clear you if necessary. Get to Certification. CLICK ON THIS LINK AND SEE ALL OF THE BENEFITS AND GET REGISTERED FOR THE APRIL 14 – 17 CERTIFICATION. CALL CAREY RIGHT NOW at 866-338-4883.

Where to start when you're looking for software for your practice

by Brimhall Wellness Fri, March 12 2010 20:05

Where to Start When You're Looking for Software for Your Practice

If you’re unsure where to start, uncertain which decision is the right one and even unsure what questions to even ask, YOU better read on...

Doctors and CA’s alike. I have asked Brandy to cover this very important SOFTWARE QUESTION. She is consulting many offices that are having nightmares instead of dreams in this very important area. This will be one of several articles I will have her write. This is a little lengthy but will likely save you thousands of dollars and hundreds of person hours. Only her mind and understanding can come up with the lists of problems and solutions outlined below.

Dr. John

You may have already found that there’s not a simple solution to finding the perfect software for your practice. If you’re brand new to practice, you may find that you aren't certain what you even need in a software program. The software research is overwhelming among everything else you are working to prepare or implement into your practice. If you’re already in practice, you already have so many systems/office procedures in place (or should be in place), you must choose software that flows with your present systems to create the most efficiency and ease in transition.

That being said, it is important that you recognize the following: CHANGING SOFTWARE WILL REQUIRE SOME SPECIFIC STEPS OR SYSTEMS IN YOUR PRACTICE TO BE ALTERED IN ORDER TO BEST ACCOMMODATE THE SOFTWARE PROGRAM. Understanding this and being prepared for these changes is guaranteed to save you hours of frustration and enable you to properly and effectively make the proper alterations before you begin to recognize holes in systems that weren't there before.

Investing in software is a big decision and a big commitment. Not only are you taking on expense, there is also a transition that your staff and practice will go through while implementing this software and implementing it properly. As with any other implementation to your office, there is a process TO do this efficiently and effectively.

As you have probably noticed, there are lots of software companies and sales people claiming to be exactly what you need. What you must realize is that the needs of every office are not the same. So, before you make an investment like this, you must first determine what will work best for YOU.

Part I:

  1. Why are you looking to change or add software?
  2. What features do you want or need in new software? (For examples of features, see the end of this newsletter.)
    1. Discuss this as a team in your office so everyone can offer insight as to what would be helpful in each individual department.
  3. What features do you have in your current software or systems that are important to have in any new software program when you make a change?
    1. Discuss this as a team and be as detailed as possible to specific features that are used to aid with thoroughness & efficiency (examples: inventory stats, reactivation/missed
      appointment reports, etc)
  4. What is your software spending budget (consider software cost, tech support & upgrades)?
  5. How soon would you like to upgrade or change your software?
    1. What is your goal date for final decision on which software program is best for you, as well as, when is your goal date for implementation of the new program?
  6. What software companies are candidates for your practice?
  7. List their names, phone numbers, websites, etc.

Part II.

  1. Contact each of the software companies you have listed, ask specific questions regarding featureS you need and features you want, as you have listed above.
    1. Consider asking for references to check
  2. Schedule and participate in a demo of the software to specifically see these features as well as the features of the general program.
    1. Make specific notes as to what the software can and cannot do as well as the general ease of learning and use of the software.
  3. Determine Pros and Cons
    1. List the pros and cons of each software.
    2. Look for features you want that may not be available in different software systems….
      1. Discuss and make notes of if/how these features can be handled manually or in another manner so as to not be skipped, or skip this software program if it does not meet your needs.
      2. Discuss with software companies to see if said system(s) may be added to an update at some point.
    3. Discuss as a team your findings, ideas, concerns, etc as you have gone through this process. Decide as a team which software is best for you.

Additional tips:

  • Plan Ahead once you have decided on a software program. Here are steps to follow to efficiently implement this software and to do it as smoothly as possible.
  • Remember that the people you speak to at software companies are sales representatives. Their job is to convince you that their program is the best for you. Be sure to get the necessary information so YOU can make this educated decision.
  • Be sure to ask about specific fees such as tech support, updates, upgrades, etc.
  • Be as detailed as possible as you list features you want and need in a software program.
This will be a huge time saver as you train and transition to your new software.
  • Set a goal date for complete implementation of your new software.

Examples of features you may find necessary (this is not a complete list of necessities but rather a list of features that are often overlooked when researching software):

  • Scheduling; ability to schedule multiple types of procedures
  • Missed appointment and reactivation reporting methods for ease of follow up
  • Documentation meeting current requirements and ease of documentation completion and future interpretation
  • Ability to document additional services/items (ex. Nutrition) for record keeping and future tracking
  • Set up of patient accounts, personal and primary and secondary insurance information (if applicable)
  • Diagnosing and ability to update diagnosis
  • 1500 Claim Form Boxes: ability to fill or update important boxes such as Date of Current (Box 14), Additional Diagnosis: Don’t use this box for Medicare (Box 19), diagnosis pointing (Box 24E), Rendering Provider ID (Box 24J), Accepting or Not Accepting Assignment (Box 27)….just to list a few of the important ones that ted to be difficult to find or edit.
  • Ability to access or add specific codes such as diagnosis codes, service codes & modifiers
  • Insurance billing systems: claims submission log (showing proof of timely filing), ability to prepare, view and/or print claims for review or submission. Ability to print Tracers (resubmissions)
  • Insurance Posting Systems ease of ability to make correct payment postings and write-off’s, ability to post partial payments, ability to note take on specific dates of service for follow up record keeping purposes, ability to submit and track supplement/secondary insurance claims, separation of insurance balances an patient balances, ability to easily determine outstanding/open claims and their originally submission dates
  • Ability to easily interpret patient accounts and ledgers as well as ability to make and note necessary edit
  • Ability to post and monitor special types of payments such as prepays
  • Statistics and reporting: weekly and/or monthly itemized statistics, ability to track specifics such as nutrition, comparison reporting month to month, quarter to quarter) to track growth, stability or decline, Accounts Receivable and aging reports, patient case types (cash, insurance(specific types of insurance), Medicare, Personal Injury, Work Comp), day sheets, month end reports
  • Special reports or records: e-mail addresses, birthday reports, last visit reports (for reactivations), referral sources, inventory tracking
  • Ability to attach or separate patient accounts (sometimes helpful when treating families)
  • Patient billing: ease of ability to prepare patient statements, ease of ability for patient to interpret, tracking for aged or delinquent accounts

If you would like additional assistance with this or for specific software recommendations, please contact Total Practice Resources and ask to speak with one of our consultants. Please remember also that helpful information such as this and much more is offered free through the Total Practice Resources Spotlight (our newsletter). Webinars are also available and are full of invaluable information and training systems and would be a great instrument in your practice building, development and team organization.
